No Fear, Go Smear!

Hi Everyone!

This post is a bit different from my usual fashion and beauty posts that I put on here. It's from more of a personal angle but something that's really close to my heart and i feel needs to be addressed.

In October 2013 I went for a routine smear test. I go for a smear test every three years and have since I hit the age limit of which smears are mandatory in this country. This is 25 years old currently. Unfortunately, my smear test was due when I was 7 months pregnant with my beautiful daughter Lucie, and as a result couldn't attend as pregnant women aren't allowed a smear test, nor are you allowed one until 6 months after baby has arrived. Like usual I turned up, had my smear test, which is nothing more than a slight bit uncomfortable, and went home and waited on tenterhooks for the results. Naively, I thought my results would come back clear like they had always done. Little did I know I'd be in for a bit of a shock.

My results finally arrived and I opened the letter and knew instantly something was wrong by how thick the envelope felt. Normally when you receive the letter from your doctor it's just a piece of paper saying your results came back clear. The envelope I had in my hands was very much padded out. I literally burst into tears there and then. All sorts of thoughts were running through my mind and I instantly felt sick at the thought of reading the letter. I opened it and I had a leaflet staring me back in the face that said Cervical Cancer The Facts. I'm sure you can imagine the sheer panic that ran through me. Am I going to die? Omg it's cancer. That sort of thing. I eventually, after the initial shock, got round to reading the leaflet and it basically went through all the preventative procedures for each symptom. Not as scary as what the front of the leaflet lead me to believe.

I had what is called CIN 3 cells, which are also known as high grade dyskaryosis, which is severe cervical abnormalities. The statistic for changes in cells in women is around 1 in 20 women who go for a smear test. There are three levels of CIN cells and this is to determine how much of the cervix is effected by the pre cancerous cells.

CIN1 – indicates mild changes; affecting only one-third of the thickness of the surface layer of the cervix. These changes are not cancer, and in most cases do not lead to cancer in the future.

CIN2 – indicates moderate changes; affecting two-thirds of the thickness of the surface layer of the cervix.

CIN3 – indicates more severe changes (not cancer); affecting the full thickness of the surface layer of the cervix.
I was asked to go for a Colposcopy / Lletz Treatment at my local women's unit at Nottingham City Hospital where they tried to remove the cells. I then again waited on my results and thankfully these came back clear. The colposcopy was done under a local anaesthetic and was slightly uncomfortable but worth it for getting the cells removed.

If anyone is due a colposcopy or would like more information you can visit the NHS website HERE

Although these cell changes are not cancer yet, they are pre cancerous and can develop in the future, should they not be treated. The screening is in place to PREVENT cancer and ultimately save you from contracting it. It literally saves your life when caught soon enough. I class myself as really lucky that we have this kind of service in the UK. Without it, who knows what the outcome may have been. I've been left in the situation that that much of my cervix was removed, should I have another child I'd be at risk of miscarrying as I wouldn't be able to carry the baby as normal.
Statistics show that one in four women don't go for their smear test when they're invited to go for one by their GP. Far too frequently i am seeing girls that are saying they're 'putting off' going for a smear test. I'm unsure as to why girls don't go for treatment. It actually baffles me. Your health is paramount. The age limit of cervical screening is something that also needs to be looked at as you see far too many people being diagnosed with cervical cancer at a young age. Please respect yourself and your body by going for a smear test. It lasts under two minutes and although it can be uncomfortable, it can also save your life.

If I can be blunt. The thought of dropping my knickers for a stranger didn't exactly thrill me. But if I'm honest I'd rather be healthy than worry about dropping my knickers for a professional nurse. Overall I think girls worry about getting their vagina's out as it's such a personal area for someone to be poking about in. You'll be asked a few general questions by the nurse before she will ask you to remove your lower clothing and pop onto the bed. This is the part where you actually start to panic as you can be unsure, if you've not had a smear before, as to what's about to happen. It's literally pain free. I cannot stress that enough to you. It may be slightly uncomfortable or a bit embarrassing, depending on what kind of person you are, But it's totally worth it. Remember a nurse doesn't care what your vagina looks like. She sees them all day every day. So if that's what you're worried about I wouldn't bother! The nurse is probably desensitised to vagina's.

I've had a few of my friends come to me for advice for when they've received similar results to mine and i feel thankful that i can help by listening and advising somewhat. I'm in no way a professional when it comes to this matter. I'm just a small percentage of people in which a abnormal smear has effected.

If you have a smear pending and are putting it off. PLEASE ring your doctor and book yourself in.

I hope everyone takes a positive from this rather personal post and goes for their smear without fear!

Eco Tools Complexion Collection*

Hi Everyone!

I don't know about you? But I love me some make up brushes! Especially new ones! The above are the new range from Eco Tools Complexion Collection and I absolutely love them!. To say I was thrilled when they landed through my letter box would be an understatement! The packaging is absolutely lovely on these brushes and the bristles feel so soft and literally glide over the skin!

This Brush is great for applying your BB and CC creams and give great coverage on your skin. Its especially ideal for the areas under your eyes and your nose. I love how light weight the brush feels and how soft it feels over my skin.

This brush is great for minimal blending in the eye area and crease. The bristles on this brush are really nice and dense and gets right into the eye area with great precision! I love the detail on the brushes I think it looks so nice and makes the brushes really stand out.

This brush is great for creating the flawless glow that we all strive for! I find that because of the long and short bristles on this brush it picks up a lovely amount of product when applying. This is my favourite brush of the collection due to its finish. It's great for building up coverage on the skin too!

This brush is amazing for covering dark circles, blemishes and any other redness which may occur on the skin! The long and short bristles really help apply a smooth finish with my concealer and I find great for buffing product onto my skin.

These brushes, I can see, will become staple brushes in my brush collection and, as I said earlier in this post, I absolutely love the detail on each brush! It looks so colourful and makes the brush stand out!

Will you be trying Eco Tools Complexion Collection?

Festival Fashion

5. Black Wool Hat £14.99
11. Hunter Wellies £59.00
Hi Everyone!
Festival season is amongst us and like many, I am a huge fan of festival fashion. I absolutely love seeing what everyone is wearing and accessorising to places like Coachella and V Festival.
Having been to a festival myself, I went to V Festival, I've based my wish list of Festival Fashion above based on what I like to wear and what I'd consider as great festival pieces to wear amongst the other fashionista's at the event!
You may have noticed that a piece of technology sneaked it's way into the post but I literally couldn't have survived without phone battery for the whole weekend, what if I'd have lost my friends? So I included the portable IPhone charger as an accessory so i cheated a little bit!
I definitely feel like you can't go wrong at a festival with a bit of crochet, denim and some sunglasses matched with a pair of Hunters! For me, they're a staple piece of fashion for any festival and never fail to look good!
Have you ever been to a festival?? Which one did you go to?

Batiste Dry Shampoo in Oriental

Hi Everyone,

I've recently been using dry shampoo in my hair a bit more frequently than I usually would due to loving having a lot of volume in my hair and there is no better brand that creates said volume than Batiste! Obviously I use Batiste Dry Shampoo for those days where washing your hair just seems like an overwhelming daunting task, but I find a spritz of dry shampoo in the root of the hair just gives my hair that extra oomph I'm looking for.

I've tried most of the Batiste range over the years and I've round all of them to be amazing. Until now my favourite had always been the XXL Volume ( incredible for extra voluminous hair ) but recently I've fallen in LOVE with the Oriental one.  The packaging is just so gorgeous. Very colourful, eye catching and girly. I always get very drawn in by the packaging. If it's not very exciting chances are it'll put me off a product regardless of how good it is. What I also love about this product is that I don't find it really chalky on the hair.

The smell of this product is exactly how it's described on the bottle. Very oriental. I feel like it smells almost floral and it reminds me of summer which is always a winner!

What's your favourite from the Batiste Dry Shampoo range?

What's in my make up bag?

4. Nars Laguna Bronzer £27.50

I thought I'd do a post on what's in my make up bag! I will do an updated version of this post with swatches when I get my new camera. You'll have noticed my blog is a bit lack lustre for photos at the moment. That's because I'm waiting for my new camera. When that arrives i'll be vlogging and uploading more pictures!

From above you can see that I like to mix high end and drug store products. I find that some drug store products do just as good a job as high end products. All of the products I use I have put a link to so you can buy them if you would like too.

I have really pale skin so I've put all the shades of everything in the post so you can see what the product names are that I use. The products featured here are always heavily involved with my daily routine which I'm hoping to vlog in the near future once I have my YouTube up and running.

March Favourites

3. Tangle Teezer £7.80

Hi Everyone!

I've not done one of these posts in a while so I decided to post my March favourites for you all! It's a mixture of some beauty and some non beauty for you all. The items above are all things that I have used, watched, drank religiously during March.

Batiste is a product for me that I cannot live without. Being a working Mum to a 2 year old, sometimes, a time to yourself to wash your hair isn't possible so the Batiste Dry Shampoo in Oriental is a total god send for me! I always find this product to give me such good volume in my hair and this particular one smells amazing too! I always spray the dry shampoo around 10cm away from my roots and then massage it in. The XXL Volume from Batiste is also amazing for volume for your hair! I love the packaging on the Oriental bottle it's so colourful and pretty and makes it easy for me to find when it's in my, rather full, handbag!

I've liked Taylor Swift for years. When she was doing country music I liked her but now she's made the crossover to pop music I like her even more. This album is her best yet. Every single song on this album could be a single! I love the artwork for this album too. I've listened to it most days on my commutes to work and it's a really feel good album! I'd definitely recommend if you haven't listened to it already.

Another can't live without product for me is my Tangle Teezer. I'm going to be blunt now. After using a Tangle Teezer I don't think I could ever go back to using a normal hairbrush again. Tangle Teezer literally saved my hair. After I had my little girl my hair started to get super knotty and nothing was helping me. A normal hairbrush was starting to make my scalp really sore and then I started reading blogs more and saw 100's of bloggers raving about them. I knew I HAD to own one and I've never looked back. I actually have 3. I have 2 of the original ones and one from the flowerpot range which I won in a competition on Twitter. This product gets rid of any knots in my hair and makes my hair look and feel amazing. I am so thankful for my Tangle Teezer!

My next favourite is a drink which is Lucozade Energy in Pink Lemonade. I have loved this drink since it came out and I always PRAY that it never gets discontinued! It tastes so nice and with my job working in hotels and also being a mum I find it great for a boost of energy and a pick me up! The packaging is lovely too. Without a doubt this is my favourite drink of all time!

I've always been a huge fan of mediums. Whether it be Sally Morgan or whomever is on the TV at the time but recently I've really got into Long Island Medium on TLC. Theresa Caputo is a medium who lives in Long Island, New York and can speak with people who have crossed over. She holds private and group readings and communicates with peoples loved ones who have died. It sounds morbid but this programme isn't that at all. They show scenes in Theresa's home with her family and them interacting with each other and they're such a funny, witty, close family and they visit places together and she does surprise reading for people she comes across a long the way. All of Theresa's readings are spot on and you can see from the people's reactions on the show how much it means to them and how accurate the information is. It's made me really consider going to see a medium.

Recently I've been adding new make up brushes into my routine and they've made such a difference and I changed my blush brush for this Real Techniques blush brush and it's made a difference to my skin. I'm a huge fan of Real Techniques and have a few of their collections that they have brought out. This brush feels so soft on my cheeks and makes blusher look really nice on my face.

If you haven't invested in the YSL Baby Doll Kiss & Blush I suggest you invest in one! I first heard about this product on Lucy and Lydia's vlog on their You Tube channel and the colour looked so nice on Lydia's lips that I knew I had to try. I bought the colour in number 1. It's a really nice vibrant pink colour and makes my lips feel great and not at all sticky. At £28.50 it does come with a heavy price tag but for the quality of product you get its totally worth it!

What have been your favourites for the month of March?

My Top 20 Chick Flicks

1. Clueless, 2. Because I Said So, 3. Beauty Shop, 4. Mean Girls, 5. Spice World, 6. Save The Last Dance, 7. Burlesque, 8. She's All That, 9. 10 Things I Hate About You, 10. Crossroads, 11. On The Line, 12. Sister Act 2 : Back In The Habit, 13. Coyote Ugly, 14. My Girl, 15. A Walk To Remember, 16. The Holiday, 17. Pretty Woman, 18. The Banger Sisters, 19. Legally Blonde, 20, Going The Distance.

Bit of a different post for me today. I've seen a lot of these my favourite posts around and thought I'd let you in on my top 20 chick flicks. Some are more well known than others, but at the same time these films are just as great!

Chick flicks are my ultimate go to for when I need a pick me up! The above selection are my favourites of all time. I do love a cheesy love story about 90% of these films are exactly that!

I really would recommend Because I Said So with Mandy Moore and Diane Keaton as it's such an underrated film and every time I ask someone if they've seen it they always say they've never heard of the film! Going The Distance is another film that had a good write up but I've never really heard anyone speak about! Drew Barrymore and Justin Long star in this film about a long distance romance!

The Banger Sisters really reminds me of my teenage years where I was a boy band groupie. This film is about 2 friends who were band groupies in the 60's and 70s and they go off to lead very different lives. One is very carefree and spirited and lives life in whatever direction it takes her and the other is a very step ford wife type. They reunite and go over old times and rekindle their love for bands and their friendship. It's really worth a watch if you're a fan of a band!

Most of these films have a shared love with everyone but there are a couple that people may not have heard of so I thought I'd include them in the line up as I absolutely love them. You can find most of these dvd's for about £2 on Ebay or any online dvd store!

My favourite two films in this post are Clueless and Pretty Woman! I love the fashion, hair make up and the story line and I always feel so happy after watching each of these feel good films!

What are your favourite chick flicks? Are there any you'd recommend to me?
